How To Play West African Drums : Playing the Bass Djembe African Drum

MAN: Sometimes, in the djembe ensemble, you
also have the third accompaniment player play what's called a bass djembe. It depends on
which rhythm you're doing and it depends on how many drummers you have. But you can add
a bass djembe drummer and that's the very low sounding djembe. This specific one, I
have a cow's skin on here which is a little bit more unique to do. You can have cow's
skin or goatskin. The cow's skin is thicker. I take the hair off because I am playing it
with my hands and the bass djembe will really connect the other djembes to the dunduns as
far as the melody of the music.
