Nereida Diaz: Well we discovered, my assistant
and also I, we found out something that we call “Hocus Pocus, everybody focus,” and also I go like that. “Hocus Pocus, everybody emphasis,” so they
simply look at me as well as go like that. Nereida: Hocus Pocus, everyone … Kid: Focus! Nereida Diaz: And also also, they finish the sentence,
Nereida: Hocus Pocus, everybody … Children: Emphasis! Nereida: Focus; everyone focus.
they obtain so active that we wish to relax them. If they’re like, too over active, we just

Teaching Strategies - Gaining Children's Attention

Preschool teacher Nereida Diaz describes a strategy she uses in her classroom to focus children's attention, particularly after a period of active play. She puts her hands to her eyes to resemble a pair of glasses and says the phrase, "Hocus Pocus; everybody focus." The children respond with the same gesture and repeat the word, "focus."
