UVI String Machines 2 | Overview

hello I'm Matt Vanacore with UVI and I'm really excited to show you all you need to know about string machines to string machines to is an instrument that will load up inside of the free UVI workstation or in Falcon and it spans 62 different string synthesizers that have been collected restored and recorded for a product that was just years in the making they're 46,000 samples and an amazing architecture that lets you get keyboard sounds pads brass bass voices you name it out of this great historic bunch of machines [Music] so right here I've loaded up a 1974 Celina preset from the timeline preset now the timeline group allows you to really appreciate the history and pedigree of synths that are in this collection now you'll notice that I've got two different oscillators going on right now and that allows you to have two different copies of the same synth running simultaneously so I can pick a different preset and enable a second sound [Music] so you can hear the sound cut through a little bit more with that violin oscillator enabled I've got two copies of this synth running at the same time without having to delve into creating a multi or anything like that now the other thing that's really cool is I've got this balance control so the original string machines most of them had no velocity sensitivity so this balance control allows you to skew the volume between the low and the high keys if you're doing some complex stuff with your left hand or something like that so I can skew it towards the high keys and really hear the upper sounds and I'm playing or I can skew it more towards the low keys and get a little more beef out of the low-end this is great especially if you're gonna do some walking bass [Music] so that's a really really cool feature and you can tweak it quite easily and quickly another thing that's really neat about this instrument are the templates I'm gonna load up organ stereo now as you can imagine there are thousands and thousands and thousands and tens of thousands of possibilities with all the different layers and oscillators of these 62 different machines and if we went through every preset possibility you could really get lost and mired up there wouldn't be very pleasurable to use so you guys provided templates so with these templates they're pre-configured so that every element of the sound is already set up for that style so there's lots of different organ patches across these different synthesizers all of the other things like the Edit Page we've got you know poly mode enabled and on the effects page we've got a little bit of Drive a little bit of phaser everything is EQ to sound good for an organ so everything about this is sort of crafted and created to sound good for an organ patch [Music] so I've got some cool organ stuff already and what I can do is I can jump through the oscillators to get the different waveforms from the different synthesizers and as long as I'm sticking with organ sounds it's gonna sound great inside of this organ template so as you can see there's a lot going on here in a lot of different choices so I'll just you know Broz down to the Hohner Logan string melody – we'll pick an organ patch and as you can hear definitely a different sound in a different timbre with that different oscillator but you know I've got the click going on in the second oscillator everything is already set up so these templates allow you to craft a quick awesome powerful mono base or a blistering lead and all the other settings are already set up for you all you have to do is pick a different Tambor or a different sound from one of the different string synths and look at all the different models we have to pick from I mean everything from eminent two different far feaces Hohner Logan lambda the performer two different poly ensembles there's just so many different choices there's a lot of possibilities here all right so I've loaded up in the timeline this 1979 Logan vocalist it's got a really cool sound it's really kind of ethereal and interesting I'm gonna enable the second oscillator right now just to give it a little bit more bite so a little more high-end on there now what I can do is after I've enabled that I can go through and look at some of these different controls so for example I'll go to the modulation page and enable the step modulator and you'll notice that there's two buttons for each of these controls and that's right you can decide to enable or not enable step modulation on either oscillator so if I enable step modulation of the filter right here you can hear one of those patches the second oscillator sort of holding steady in the background while the first one is the filters being modulated by this step modulator so it allows you to really craft complex sounds even more complex than could have been crafted on the original machine I can further beef up that sound by going to the effects page and adding in a little phaser and a little bit of the original Ensemble effect so the ensemble effect is a little different from chorus it's gonna smooth it out a little bit thicken it up and a nice slow phaser really kind of adds a little bit of the richness to that sound so that's pretty cool as you can imagine if you're enabling both oscillators and you're getting to choose whether the step modulator is active for one or both you can craft some pretty complex sounds and you can do that as well with the arpeggiator so I've got individual arpeggiators and they could be linked together if I wanted to for simplicity sake but why do that when you can have so much fun with them running completely separately [Music] so as you can hear with that I've got one patch like holding down the beef to sort of meat and potatoes of this sound while the second one is using this arpeggio to add a little motion to it and I've got adjustable speed a number of steps right now I'm only using four of the steps there's a lot more in there so if I enable more you can really hear the entire range of motion for this out so that really adds a little bit more variety to these sounds and as you can imagine you can craft some huge sounding patches with the two oscillators arpeggiating in two different ways all right now with this preset I can see two separate arpeggiators and they're both enabled for each separate oscillator they're doing two separate sequences to separate speeds let's check it out so with that you can see both oscillators arpeggiating at different rates it gives a real wide effect and the differing directions almost make it compose a melody as long as you hold the chord so you know since I've got one going up and the other going up and down it really the contrast between the two makes it seem huge and it's really neat so string machines – it's just this sonic archive of synth history it's available now now get yourself over to WWE UVI net for some more info [Music]
