5 Steps To FASTER HANDS (Do This!) | Drum Lesson

– Five tips to go faster with
your hand as fast as possible. So let's get started. Tip number one. I know that in order to play fast, you need to push yourself when
you need to use your fingers. Most drummer use fingers. It doesn't matter if it is open close, push pull or flying fingers. But if you use your fingers
a little bit too quickly in your progress, it's
going to backfire on you at some point. First of all what is the most important
things with hands technique, in my opinion, is your wrist. You need to make your
wrist flexible enough so they can follow the
rebound of the drumsticks. So tip number one, is
to work on your wrist. And in order to do that, you
will slow down the tempo. And that's totally fine, because what I really want
to show you in this video is that you can make a lot
of progress with faster tempo but working at slower tempo. And if you play slower
tempo with your wrist it is going to be super
helpful for the faster tempo even if you are using your
fingers for the faster tempo.

All right. So tip number two and this is kind of
linked to tip number one. So tip number one was to
work on your wrist technique and tip number two is
kind of the way to work on your wrist technique. If you are a little bit
struggling with wrist technique, my advice is to practice from time to time with bigger drumstick and/or with the lower rebound
practice pad, you know, a practice pad that have
kind of a low rebound. So for example, when I want to do this I use this Scorpion Percussion drumstick which are the emperor. They are pretty big, pretty heavy and they don't have any kind of tips.

You know, it's just round ends. And this is already not having a lot of rebound because no tips. And then I can also use
the Remo practice pad which doesn't have so much rebound. So this is kind of a really
good combination to practice on your wrist technique. Just big drumstick and
low rebound practice pad. And the thing is also that you will have to practice
that even slower tempo probably because this is
very intense practice.

And if you go too fast,
it's going to hurt yourself. But if you slow down the tempo in a way it's not super
stressful for your body because you play slower and still it's kind of
a lot of energy involved that will help you to
make your wrist flexible because the stick is heavier. – If you want to watch the full

yourself at some point and you will start to
play a little bit faster during only 4 bars and then 8 and then 16, stuff like that. That is for sure. This is the way to go
when you push yourself. You start with short period of time and then you make more and more bars. But doing this, you will probably
have some posture issues. So tip number three is
to watch your posture especially when you are pushing yourself. When I say what your posture is… so you have one grip. It doesn't matter if it is
German, French, or whatever.

But you just take this grip
and you work with this grip. And when you push yourself please make sure that
you stay with this grip. And one thing also is that
when I'm giving online lesson, I have too many students that
are working on their couch with the practice pads, just
standing laying on the table. And when you want to practice, especially when you want to push yourself you need a proper standing position and a proper practice pad. So please, if you need to buy
an extra throne for your flats because the other one
is in the rehearsal room just buy this throne. And buy proper practice
pad with the proper stands and practice in a good posture. Otherwise, it is pointless to practice. Very important tips now. Number four. You have to practice
on different sticking. Single stroke, it's great. Double stroke, it's great too. But paradiddle, the very simple one right, left, right, right,
left, right left, left.

You definitely have to
practice on that one too. And when I say that you have
to practice your paradiddle, I don't say practice your
paradiddle like this. I mean that you have to push yourself until you can play your paradiddle as fast as your double
or single stroke roll. All right drummers, one last tip. I've talked mainly about
practicing on the practice pads and I think it's very very important because if you're practicing
on the practice pads, you have less distraction to
just drum all the drum kits because it's just so nice
to have all the drumkits around you that you don't want to go through very basic exercises.

So on the practice pads you are just more focused because of that. It's also saving your ears like crazy. It's saving your gear too. And so then it's also saving
your focus as I've said. So it's very important to
practice on the practice pads. But that doesn't mean you cannot practice on the drum kit then. This is super, super important. When you are pushing yourself
on the practice pads, basically at some point
you might use a technique that is great for the practice pads but that just doesn't work
at all behind the drumkit. And I've noticed that when
I was playing skank beats with the 16th Note on the Hi Hat. They were really not good. And it was because I was
using too much fingers in my open-close motion and not wrists. And so I've worked on the wrist technique in order to solve that problem. And then I can put more wrist
into my open-close technique or play just wrist on the Hi Hat.

And so then the Hi Hat was a lot better during the skank beats. And it is the same thing
with the fills on the toms. So you need to go on the
practice pads from time to time. But also on the drum kit,
just to check if what you are practicing on the practice
pads is actually working on the drum kit. If what you're practicing
on the practice pad, isn't working on the drum
kit, just get rid of that. Find what is working on the drum kit, and then try to practice these
things on the practice pad. So you definitely need to practice on both practice pad and drum kit. And finally it is the drum kit that says if it is good or not. And then it's on the practice
pads that you practice what is working on the drum kit as I've said to save your ears,
your gear, and your focus.
