This exercise is going to be dealing with
unison and non-unison, and then with the four limbs. Down beats, up beats, and dynamics. How musical can you be with just those elements? Instead of off beats, let’s say maybe quarter
note triplets in one limb. Incorporate different orchestrations. Kind of a free improvisation example of things
you can do, so. Maybe a creative way that you could think
about dealing with the rudiments. Breaking up the right hand between cymbal,
rim of the floor tom, back to the cymbal. I mean if you heard that, you would never
think of that a rudiment, right? You would just hear that kind of melody or
whatever groove..
