Gorden Campbell – Gospel Drumming and Professionalism Masterclass 2

Gospel chops, fills, the majority of it is
linear. So the first one, is triplets. Different drums at different times. When you really
break it down to the lowest common denominator, it's just sixteenths. By putting the accent
on a different beat, it's the same exact rudiment, or the same exact fill, but it gives it a
totally different feel. But when I get a gig or when I get called or have to learn a song
for a record, I really want to get into what that song is saying, what the style of music
says to me. I'm not just going to go, I'm not going to play it straight. I want to really
focus on whatever the feeling is. I want to get all the way into it.
