Aaron Comess – Drum Masterclass 1

I feel that having a focused practice session
can really help you out. Usually what I like to do at first is start
out with some sort of warm up exercises. Do constant triplets but we're going to accent
the rhythm that's written there. Now if you want to put your right hand on
this cymbal and your left hand on this cymbal and accent with the bass drum. And once you get into improvisation, you don't
want to think about this, but you can sort of think of patterns in your mind. Coming up with a basic phrase or a pattern
can be a really great way to develop a solo.

What makes a groove groove, what makes a pocket
happen? Your backbeat is hitting the exact same spot
every time. Once you have this feeling really good, you
want to make sure every extra note you add really means something, and really feels good..
